Developing healthy eating habits is the first step towards
developing a healthy lifestyle. It's amazing how once you make a habit
of something it is no longer difficult to keep doing it and that goes
for bad as well as good habits. Here are a few habits that would fall
into the good habits category so.
Start by focusing on each one individually until that one is now a habit of yours and then move on to the next one.
Drink lots of water - drink at least eight glasses a day of water to keep your body hydrated and performing at its best. Increase the amount during really hot weather or during exercise.
Eat small meals all through the day - try not to gorge yourself at lunch or breakfast, rather eat a healthy snack between meals to control your hunger and then reduce your portions at meal time. Better to eat smaller portions several times a day then to eat large meals at extended intervals.
Don't skip breakfast - it's not hard to understand why it's the most important meal of the day as it provides the fuel your body needs to get going in the morning and to keep going.
Fruit and vegetables - eat lots of them, at meal time, at snack time, almost anytime is a good time for fruit and vegetables. Get into the habit of having a serving of fresh vegetables as a side on your dinner plate every evening.
Make snacking a healthy eating habit - no more processed crap like chips or chocolate bars, instead go for some low-fat yogurt, mixed nuts, fresh fruit or sliced up vegetables.
Give your body a chance to digest - don't eat late dinners and then go to bed with a full stomach. Try to give you body at least three hours from the end of your meal to bedtime.
As I said, the key is to make each of these into a daily habit so that you don't even have to think about it, you just do it. However, in the beginning it might help if you keep a journal of what you eat every day. You might be surprised how much you will learn about your eating habits as they are today. It will certainly provide you with some insights that might encourage you even more to develop some healthy eating habits.
