One of the main causes that sees people fail in their diet attempts is due to the belief that certain foods are healthy. They mistakenly think that these so-called healthy foods will be the solution to their weight loss efforts.
When they don't achieve the desired results frustration sets in and they begin to question whether it's all worth it. And eventually give up altogether.
Is this you?
It's time how to rethink the foods that you may be including in your diet and decide that you are better off with out them.
Diet is a key factor in successful weight loss and if you are making some critical errors in this process then you are surely going to be at a great disadvantage.
So let's begin and review some of the biggest "healthy foods" that you need to get rid of now!
Problem Food Number 1 Fruit Juice
How often do you drink fruit juice thinking that it is good for your health?
We all realize that we need a lot of fruits and vegetables in our diet. But do we also believe that fruit juice is an important part of a weight loss plan?
If that is what you think then it's time to reconsider.
The problem with fruit juice is that it lacks the fibre contained in real fruit (most of the fibre is found in the skin of real fruit), but it's also calorie dense.
When compared to regular soda it can contain just as many calories.
Would you include soda in your diet plan?
I think not. So why include fruit juice?
While it may contain some nutrients that makes it slightly better than soda from a health perspective, from a weight loss perspective which is concerned with calories consumed verses calories expended, it's really not any better.
If you are thirsty, drink water or green tea. Green tea contains anti-oxidants that support better health and can slightly boost your metabolism.
Problem food number 2 cereal bars
Again here is another food that people mistakenly believe is a good breakfast substitute. They are only between 120 and 180 calories and low in fat, plus are claimed to be made from real fruit also.
How could you not win in this situation?
Well let's take a step back for a second.
The problem with cereal bars is that they are made from refined flours, with little amounts of protein.
On average the only have a gram or 2 of protein along with a gram or 2 of fat.
So what happens when you eat a high in carbohydrate, low protein, low fat food?
Your blood sugar goes through the roof.
When this occurs, your body will madly store body fat and when your blood sugar levels drop as the sugar is stored as fat, you'll get cravings and feel hungry again.
These cereal bars will not get you through to your next meal. Try some grain bread with natural peanut bar as a snack. This contains more healthy carbs, protein, and healthy fats.
Problem Food Number 3 Fruit Smoothies
A common drink along with fruit juice that many people choose as a healthier alternative that really isn't are fruit smoothies.
They are prepared with mostly healthy ingredients but they contain too many calories.
Blood Sugar Roller-Coaster
Just like fruit juice they contain high amounts of sugar, which can cause your blood sugar to spike and then crash.
While they may contain some protein and sometimes fat that will help offset the blood sugar increase slightly, it's not really enough when you think about how many carbs there are in total.
Furthermore, many fruit smoothies are prepared with full fat ice cream, frozen yogurt and other high calorie ingredients that are less than natural.
Make Your Own?
Make sure if you are making your own smoothie that you only use quality ingredients all the while keeping the calories in check. Then consider including them in your diet plan.
Think twice when buying one from a smoothie bar as you could be consuming more calories than a standard meal.
So there you have 3 so called "healthy foods" that you need to be careful of when using a diet plan. If any of the these have entered the picture then consider making adjustments to improve your current diet.
Just because you are told it's healthy by the manufacturer make sure you always question how healthy the food really is.
